The board of the Southern Cayuga Scholarship Foundation thanks everyone involved for another tremendously successful fundraising Phonathon, held this year on Thursday, February 8th. Usually our Phonathon is held on two consecutive nights, but the snow day on Wednesday, February 7th put paid to that plan. Nonetheless, the intrepid team of eleven student volunteers, who were dedicated and focused, did a great job making up most of the ground lost from missing Wednesday night. They secured over $5,100 in firm pledges in under three hours during Thursday’s Phonathon; we usually obtain about $7,500 in firm pledges over two Phonathon nights. Many, many thanks to these Phonathon operators: Samantha Frazier, Catie Kopp, Aimee Kreydatus, Brittney Meade, Conrad Murphy, Emma Myers, Lorenzo Raymundo, Sarah Reynolds, Antonio Valdez, Gavin VanHorn, and Lily Vernon. We really couldn’t have done it without you!

While we weren’t able to contact quite as many district residents on our sole calling night on Thursday, we aren’t worried. Along with contributions we expect to receive from past donors who didn’t make a firm pledge over the phone as well as donations from past Phonathon supporters we did not reach by phone but to whom we mail follow-up pledge packets, we expect to come close to meeting our fundraising goal of $12,000. Those donated funds will be distributed back to our school community in the form of scholarship awards made later this spring. All funds raised locally by the Southern Cayuga Scholarship Foundation are awarded locally and provide financial support for graduating SCCS seniors going on to college or vocational programs, or for district college students continuing their studies. Notice to SCCS seniors, complete your Southern Cayuga Scholarship Foundation scholarship application; it is available now in the Guidance office!

We thank all our donors for their generous financial support. If you haven’t yet sent in your pledge payment, we would appreciate receiving this by March 31st or as soon as it is convenient for you. If we didn’t reach you during this year’s Phonathon and you wish to make a fully tax-deductible donation of support, please send your check, made payable to Central New York Community Foundation, Inc., to 431 East Fayette Street, Suite 100. Syracuse New York 13202, noting SC Scholarship Foundation in the subject/memo line on your check.  The CNY Community Foundation serves as our fiscal sponsor; your donation acknowledgement will come from them, noting your gift to us. If you prefer, you may securely donate online to the Southern Cayuga Scholarship Foundation at https://cnycf.org/southerncayuga#.VpUtgPkrKUk.

This annual Phonathon fundraiser to underwrite scholarship awards for our district’s students is a great example of how our Southern Cayuga community comes together to support our own. We really couldn’t do it without our whole community’s support, too. Thanks again!
