Check List

*      Review your child’s schedule, is it what you expected?  Every student needs six classes, PE, and lunch.

*      Encourage your child to explore different careers.  This can happen in several easy ways:  ask questions of family members and friends, visiting with adults while at work, using the internet or library resources.

*      Talk about all aspects of college: academics, athletics, volunteering, meeting new people, exploring options

*      Take advantage of the local college facilities: libraries, field houses, theaters, etc.

*      Sign up for the PLAN and the PSAT (preliminary college entrance exams) usually given at your high school in October

*      Discuss high school course selections with your child and his/her guidance counselor.  Are they meeting your college/career requirements?

*      Keep track of honors and awards received throughout high school (they will need this information when they apply for scholarships later on)

*      Encourage your son or daughter to do something over the summer – anything!!  Work, volunteer, college enrichment programs, summer school (if necessary)
