Anne Frank Celebration at Southern Cayuga

On June 12, 2014, the date of Anne Frank’s birthday, a One Year Celebration (since the planting of the Anne Frank tree in 2013) will be held in the Southern Cayuga School district High School auditorium in Poplar Ridge, a half hour drive from Ithaca.  At 6:30 p.m., a special lecture will take place featuring Rhonda Fink-Whitman, author of the book 94 Maidens (http://www.94maidens.com/). Rhonda is the child of a Holocaust survivor and a Holocaust education advocate from Pennsylvania.  

The Anne Frank Tree in the Southern Cayuga School district is a living testament to the life and writings of Anne Frank during the Holocaust.  The beautiful horse chestnut tree also serves as a reminder of the freedom and good fortune shared by residents of upstate New York and focuses our energy on defending human rights in all parts of the world.

The tree sapling planted outside the Emily Howland Elementary School in Aurora New York is part of the nation-wide Sapling Project of the Anne Frank center in New York City.  http://annefrank.com/the-sapling-project/. 

The June 12 program which is free and open to the public will feature folk-dancing by children of the Emily Howland Elementary school and an art exhibit by members of the 7^th grade class, a travelling photo exhibit and the music of the Klezmer Kings.
