With construction of the SCCS Hall of Fame now complete, a long-envisioned project has officially come to life. Plaques honoring Hall of Fame inductees have been mounted, and the extensive collection of trophies and awards earned by SCCS athletic teams over the years has started to take shape into the newly installed display cases.
The Hall of Fame is located in the hallway between the SCCS high school auditorium and gym, a space that has been fully renovated to properly showcase the proud history of our athletic program. Improvements include the installation of three glass enclosed trophy cases, two dedicated display walls for Hall of Fame inductee plaques, upgraded lighting, new ceramic wall tile, and additional storage space. The main trophy case outside of the Auditorium has been completed, and work continues in the Hall of Fame corridor to finalize the remaining displays.
SCCS Athletic Coordinator Colton Gregg shared that over the coming weeks, trophies will be brought out of storage, where they have been carefully kept during construction, and organized within the new cases. The displays will be arranged in chronological order, highlighting decades of SCCS athletic achievement. The final display case will pay tribute to “Our Founding Schools”, Genoa, King Ferry, and Sherwood, recognizing the athletic traditions that helped shape Southern Cayuga Central School District.
In addition to the Hall of Fame corridor enhancements, team recognition banners have been installed on the gym wall. These banners honor SCCS teams that have captured league championships, sectional titles, and advanced to NYS tournament competition. They serve as a visible reminder of the dedication, teamwork, and excellence demonstrated by our student-athletes over the years.
Looking ahead, a newly installed touchscreen display located outside the gym will further enhance the experience. Once fully programmed, it will feature individual athletic accomplishments, school records, Hall of Fame honoree photographs and biographies, and other historical highlights, creating an interactive way for students, families, and community members to explore SCCS athletic history.
The completion of the SCCS Hall of Fame along with other area renovations represents more than an improvement project, it is a new celebration of tradition, pride, and the lasting legacy of Southern Cayuga athletics.
