ESPN Ithaca 'GameChanger' Award

March 24, 2026

Chris Stevens Named “Community Gamechanger” Award Recipient by ESPN Ithaca

In every school community, there are individuals whose impact reaches far beyond their job description—people who step in wherever needed, quietly ensuring that students have the opportunities and support they deserve. At Southern Cayuga, that person is Chris Stevens, and it is with great pride that we recognize him as a recipient of the Community Game Changer Award.

This award honors individuals who go above and beyond in supporting student-athletes and strengthening their school communities. Chris Stevens exemplifies this spirit in every sense.

While his official role is in maintenance, Chris’s contributions extend well beyond facilities. He is a constant presence behind the scenes, making sure that everything runs smoothly for students and staff alike. From preparing and maintaining athletic spaces to stepping in as a bus driver so teams can make it to away contests, Chris ensures that opportunities for student-athletes are never missed.

His involvement in athletics is both consistent and invaluable. Chris can often be found keeping the scorebook at basketball games, running the clock at soccer matches, and supporting events in any way needed. His willingness to step in—without hesitation and without recognition—has made him an essential part of the athletic program.

Beyond athletics, Chris plays a critical role in the daily operation of the school. Whether it’s resolving water issues, monitoring the pool, or fixing heating systems in the middle of winter, he approaches every challenge with a problem-solving mindset and an unmatched work ethic. Simply put, many of the day-to-day functions of the district rely on Chris’s dedication and reliability.

What makes Chris truly deserving of the Community Game Changer Award is not just what he does, but how he does it. He is selfless, hardworking, and deeply committed to the Southern Cayuga community. He never seeks recognition, yet his impact is felt by everyone—students, staff, and families alike.

Having served the district for years, Chris has become someone the entire community depends on. If he were not here, many of the moving parts that keep the school running would come to a halt.

In addition to his work at school, Chris is a devoted husband and father, bringing that same care, pride, and commitment into everything he does. His character and dedication make him a true role model within the community.

Southern Cayuga is fortunate to have Chris Stevens, and this recognition as a Community Game Changer is both fitting and well deserved.
